Caucus with Us and Become a Delegate
Delegates are the community representatives who determine which candidate will receive the Democratic Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) endorsement. Delegates are chosen through their neighborhood DFL precinct caucus (held on April 8) to attend the city convention (held on July 19) where they may vote in support of DeWayne.
Step 2 is to pre-register for caucus night! (This is not required, but will speed up the night for everyone!)

A precinct caucus is just a technical term for a gathering of neighbors. These gatherings are the first step in the DFL’s endorsement process.
On April 8, people across the city will gather with fellow residents of their local precincts to talk about issues important to the party and select representatives, known as delegates, to represent them at their Ward and City Conventions.
It is these delegates who go on to vote on party endorsements in positions like Mayor, City Councilor, and Parks Coordinator. You may also be elected as an alternate, which means you will replace a delegate if they are unable to attend the convention for which they were elected.

Precinct caucuses will be held on April 8! Locations for the caucuses have not yet been released, but your venue will be close to your home address. If you sign up to caucus with us, we will let you know when your location becomes available.

Conventions are where candidates have a chance to earn the DFL endorsement in their race.
Delegates, elected by their neighbors at local precinct caucuses, are able to vote for their favorite candidates. Voting is done in rounds. If a candidate earns more than 60% of delegates’ votes in any round, they win the endorsement! If the threshold is not reached in the first round, rounds continue until a candidate is selected or until delegates agree not to endorse a candidate.
At this campaign, we are most interested in the Minneapolis City Convention, which is where the decision on an endorsement in the mayor’s race will be made.
Prior to voting, there are often speeches by candidates, opportunities to ask questions, and debate on issues that concern the party.

The City Convention will be held on July 19 at a location to be determined.

If you absolutely can’t attend on caucus night, but still want to be a delegate to the City Convention, you should complete a Non-Attendee Form. You can use this form to let your neighbors at that you would like to be considered as a delegate or alternate to the City Convention. Note: the Non-Attendee Form is the same as the Pre-registration Form.
If you submit a Non-Attendee form but want to be a delegate, please also let us know by clicking the above “caucus with us” button and filling out the form on that page.
